The mission of the College of Medicine was launched in the academic year 1997-1998, when it opened its doors to receive students. This launch stemmed from the actual need to prepare specialized medical personnel and serious personnel who would improve the health situation of the beloved country, as well as improving the reality of higher education and the research field on par with developed countries in the world, and this was not the case. The grand opening would not have been possible without the tireless efforts made by distinguished figures from the governorate and the university presidency. The College of Medicine grants graduates a bachelor’s degree in medicine and general surgery after completing six years of study within an annual system of two semesters and two semi-annual and final exams. Its architectural structure has been organized to include eleven branches.” Scientifically, specialized, as well as its scientific and administrative units and other centers.

The College of Medicine was established in 1997.
The first lecture was given to the students on November 29, 1997 by Prof. Adel Musa Al-Rikabi, who is considered the founder of the college.

The first issue of Al-Qadisiyah Medical Journal was published in 2005.
The College of Medicine moved from its old building to the new building near Al-Diwaniyah Teaching Hospital 2004-2005.

The Department of Postgraduate Studies in the Microbiology Branch (Master’s) was created in the academic year 2007-2008.
The Quality Assurance and University Performance Division was created 2009-2010.
The doctoral study was introduced in the microbiology branch in the academic year 2013-2014.
Fourteen batches of graduates were graduated from 2003 to 2017.
Eight training centers were opened to study the Iraqi Board in the specialties of medicine and general surgery, orthopedics and traumatology, internal medicine, psychiatry, ear, nose and throat, children, gynecology and ophthalmology.
The new deanship building and two modern classrooms, each with a capacity of 120 students, were built and inaugurated by His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the President of the University on 1/14/2009.
The medical education unit was opened in 2015.

The College of Medicine/University of Al-Qadisiyah was included among the recognized colleges through four official international institutions: the World Directory of Medical Schools, the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research. FAIMER, General Medical Council of Britain and Medical Board of California in 2016.

Introducing a higher diploma study (equivalent to a master’s degree) in family medicine and a master’s degree study in surgery and internal medicine in 2016.

Equipping the college laboratories with high-tech equipment that keeps pace with modern scientific development in conducting laboratory tests and investigations, such as the electron microscope, the immunofluorescence device (Flow cytometry), atomic absorption, high-efficiency liquid chromography (HPLC), and the freeze-cutter device. Freez microton in 2016.

Implementing the small groups experiment in microbiology for third-year students and surgery and diseases for fourth- and fifth-year students, starting in 2016.

Establishing a scientific services and medical research unit that contains many advanced devices, which was created in light of equipping our college with a number of modern and advanced medical devices in the year 2017.

Establishing a research laboratory in the Chemistry Branch in 2017.

Introducing a master’s degree in clinical biochemistry in the branch of medicinal chemistry in 2019.
